The influence of compression level and inoculation on biochemical changes in lucerne silages

Journal of Agricultural Sciences , 2011, DOI: 10.2298/jas1101015d
Abstract: The effect of different levels of compression (A1 = 420 gdm-1, A2 = 560 gdm-1) and inoculation (B1 = no inoculant, B2 = with inoculant) on changes in chemical composition, proteolysis and quality of lucerne silage was investigated in this paper. Based on the results of chemical analysis we found that in silages with more compressed material there was a reduction in the amount of ammonia nitrogen, soluble nitrogen and acetic acid, and increased content of protein nitrogen (‘true’protein) and production of lactic acid (p<0.05). With the inoculation of the ensiling material the production of ammonia nitrogen and acetic acid was reduced but the content of lactic acid and acidity was increased (p<0.05). The interaction of both investigated factors (A×B) induced a decrease in the proteolysis degree, increase of lactic acid production and decrease in acetic acid production, and decrease in pH values (p<0.001) in investigated silages. The investigated factors had less influence on the chemical composition of lucerne material, and the significant variations were observed in fat and NFE contents. On the basis of this investigation the degree of compression is the most important parameter in ensiling technology. With the adequate compression and reduction of air in the starting material, the aerobic phase is reduced and the activity of proeolytic enzymes is decreased. In practice the special attention should be given to factors on which directly or indirectly the level of compression of ensiled material depends: wilting, cutting, object selection and/or selection of machines used for compression.

Abstract: This is the fi rst insight into the fi ne structure of the epicuticular wax crystalloids found on the adaxial surfaces of needles from three Pinus nigra subspecies (ssp. nigra, ssp. banatica (Borbás) Novák, and ssp. pallasiana (Lamb.) Holmboe) growing wild in the south-eastern Europe. In general, the main wax crystalloids in P. nigra taxa were tubules, fairly dense, with reticular aspect and restricted to suprastomatal chambers. The P. nigra needles have amorphous wax - smooth layers, granules, alone tubes lying on the surface, tubes slightly fused to each other, tubes fused together, and longitudinally aggregated rodlets. The only diff erence between the studied P. nigra samples was related to the presence of longitudinally aggregated rodlets in the medial part of adaxial needle surfaces. The micromorphological characters found using SEM are compared and discussed from fundamental and applicative aspects

Abstract: The present communication reports the finding of Cryphia amasina (Draudt 1931) (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae, Bryophilinae), a species for the fauna of Serbia. Specimens of Cryphia amasina were found in the Fru ka Gora National Park, which is located in the North Serbian province Vojvodina. This finding is a result of the more comprehensive entomological research conducted by the author in this area since 2001. different collecting methods (including bulb traps, malaise traps, butterfly nets, and caterpillar breeding) were used in the research. The specimens of Cryphia amasina were caught using a light trap with a 150W bulb in the morning hours.

A small country versus the global power
Stojanovi? Svetozar D.
Filozofija i Dru?tvo , 2002, DOI: 10.2298/fid0209039s
Abstract: In the first, general part the author starts from the assumption that a small country like FR Yugoslavia cannot realistically expect equality and equal rights in its relations with the USA. Therefore it should be very pragmatic in approaching U.S. However, it does not follow from that that it has no chance whatsoever to stand openly and decisively for its own national-state interests and rights while at the same time it is trying to harmonize them with the interests and rights of the most powerful country. The author also claims that domestic extreme pragmatists underestimate the danger of a principles reaction of a great part of their own people when they are ready to give in to every and any caprice of U.S His conclusion is that Greece vs. U.S. should be the best example for FRY.vs.U.S. Between FRY and the USA there are often serious misunderstandings, one of the reasons being essential differences in their respective conceptions and practices of the relationships between nation(ality), religion, and state. The last two portions of the text are devoted to the analysis of those misunderstandings and differences.
On political and philosophical identity: From dissident Marxist to revolutionary democrat
Stojanovi? Svetozar D.
Filozofija i Dru?tvo , 2003, DOI: 10.2298/fid0321137s
Abstract: In this paper the author seeks to shed light on the political and philosophical context of the second half of 20th century in which he intellectually came of age. In his intellectual and political development the author distinguishes three main phases. He characterizes the first phase of his development as Praxis, revisionist, dissident Marxism and reformist communism. The second phase was post-Marxism and post-communism, while in the last decade of the 20th century the author defines his theoretical views as non-Marxist. The author defines his latest philosophical-political standpoint as social democratic which, after his own self-understanding, comes closest to West European social democracy. .
Contemporary aspects in assessment of protein needs in dairy cows

Abstract: The aim of meeting protein needs in dairy cows is to provide sufficient degradable proteins, which are optimally used in the rumen, to provide the required level of productivity with a minimal amount of crude protein in the diet. The new concept, shown in this paper, which expresses protein value as metabolic, enables better protein balancing in dairy cows than before. The nutritive value of metabolic protein in dairy cows depends on essential amino acid composition of protein and their contribution to total essential amino acids. The improvement of protein utilization efficiency has practical implications. The reason for this is to decrease feeding costs per kilogram of milk or milk protein, the need for more efficient production, higher milk protein yield and to allow other nutrients in the diet to prove their influence on the increase of production.
Endoscopic argon plasma coagulation for the management of solid, centrally located lung cancer

Archive of Oncology , 2007, DOI: 10.2298/aoo0704094z
Abstract: Argon plasma coagulation (APC) is one of the interventional pulmonology techniques primarily aimed at the treatment of hemoptysis. It represents a form of non contact electrosurgey that uses ionized argon gas in order to produce electrical current that affects soft tissues. APC is reported to be effective in the treatment of early stage lung cancer, in the treatment of benign granulation tissue surrounding tracheal stents and in palliative treatment of malignant airway obstruction. Major indication for APC is hemostasis in severe hemoptysis, it can also be used as an alternative technique for laser resection or electrocautery, in urgent removal of tumors situated in large airways. The present article reports successful use of APC in the treatment of centrally located squamous cell lung cancer that caused complete right lung atelectasis. The use of APC led to complete reexpansion of the right lung and improvement in dyspnoea and chest discomfort of the patient. Significant improvement was observed in lung function parameters and blood gas analysis. With the use of APC solid tumor was completely removed from the right main bronchus and airway integrity was restored. From this case we can conclude that APC can be safely and successfully used for urgent debulking of malignant central airway obstruction.
